    East Lake started as a suburb of of Atlanta in the late 1890s and was one of Atlanta's first masterplanned neighborhoods. Revitalization in East Lake started in 1995 when Cousins tore down the crime ridden East Lake Meadows apartments and built the Villages of East Lake.
